SUMA ensures cleanliness at Coimbra’s Queima das Fitas

SUMA once again ensured the cleaning and collection of waste at Coimbra’s Queima das Fitas parade on May 26. With reinforced human and mechanical resources, SUMA once again demonstrated its commitment to sustainability and the excellence of its services.

The operation involved a total of 27 diversified mechanical resources and a team of 67 specialized operatives. Composed of two phases, the first part consisted of accompanying the procession between 3pm and 1am, followed by washing the roads from 2am, totaling 16 hours of continuous activity. This work ensured that the spaces used by students and visitors were kept clean and organized, contributing to a pleasant environment for everyone.

As a result of this operation, around 14 tons of waste were collected and all the roads along the approximately 5 km parade route were washed. In addition, more waste collection points were made available, with a reinforcement of 40 800-liter containers along the parade route. Compared to the same period last year, there was an increase of around 4 tons of waste, from 10 to 14 tons collected.

SUMA’s presence was fundamental in ensuring the collection and treatment of waste, which saw a significant increase during the festivities (associated with the large increase in participants), reaffirming its vital role in large-scale events and its tireless dedication to promoting responsible environmental practices.

The services provided by SUMA for the Queima das Fitas began on May 23 and will continue until June 2, ensuring that high standards of hygiene and environmental sustainability are maintained throughout the event.
